The horses were a 5-year-old, a 7-year-old and an 8-year-old, and Werth sought to explain what she looks for in each step of development of a young horse on the way to Grand Prix. As she helped Karen Pavicic, Endel Ots and Sabine Schut-Kery with their horses, the concepts she used were remarkably simple, yet showed just why she’s winning with Weihegold OLD, a horse judges like to describe as absolutely correct and relaxed.

Bebe Davis, of Wellington, Florida, was trailing in fourth place after the first day of teh AGCO/USEF Young Rider National Championship, but when she cantered down the centerline on Saturday, she was determined to improve. She earned a score of 71.477 percent in the Young Rider Individual test to jump to the win on her 15-year-old Hanoverian gelding Feivel Mousekewitz.

Wellington, FL — Endel Ots had a whirlwind summer last year, qualifying and competing two horses for the U.S. in the FEI World Dressage Championships for young horses in Verden, Germany. At the 2015 Championships, Lucky STrike (Lord Laurie-Heidi, His Highness), a Hanoverian gelding owned by Ots and his father, Max Ots, finished 11th in the 5-Year-Old Final. Samhitas (Sir Donnerhall I-Heidebluete, Abanos), a Oldenburg gelding owned by Ots along with Jean and Gary Vander Ploeg, placed 11th in the 6-Year-old small final. We caught up with Ots after his ride on Lucky STrike at the Gold Coast Grand Finale national show in Wellington, Florida, where the pair earned an 8.52 in their FEI 6-Year-Old class.

Verden, Germany — America’s Endel Ots completed his first ever championship in “hyper drive” after riding Lucky Strike in the final of the World Young Horse Championships and making it on Samhitas to the “small” final of the six-year-old title contest. In what was also a debut European competition circuit for the 29-year-old rider from rural Wisconsin, Endel won high marks from judges and the knowledgeable spectators and European media for quality of riding and presentation of the two young horses. For that he gives a lot of credit to help from Canada’s Evie Strasser and Hans Heinrich Meyer, the German Young Rider coach, she arranged for him to train with in Europe as well as the U.S. Young Horse coach Christine Traurig.
